HPM Announces that Ricardo Carvajal has Joined the Firm as Of Counsel
March 18, 2008Hyman, Phelps & McNamara, P.C. (“HPM”) is pleased to announce that Ricardo Carvajal has joined the firm as Of Counsel. From 2002 to 2007, Mr. Carvajal served as Associate Chief Counsel in FDA’s Office of Chief Counsel, where he handled issues concerning foods (including conventional foods, bioengineered foods, dietary supplements, functional foods, and food additives), labeling compliance (such as the use of health, nutrient content, structure/function, and disease claims), Good Manufacturing Practices, and the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point regulations. Mr. Carvajal has particular expertise in the regulation of products derived through biotechnology and nanotechnology, and in the regulation of allergens. Mr. Carvajal has also worked on matters involving drugs, devices, and other products regulated by the FDA. Mr. Carvajal received an M.S. in Biology from the University of Michigan, and his law degree from Northwestern University School of Law. He is an active member of the Food and Drug Law Institute, the Institute of Food Technologists, and the American Bar Association.
